Botox vs Dysport vs Jeuveau, Xeomin & Daxxify | Columbia MO medical spa doing an injection

If you have ever sat in my chair and asked, “Which one is best?” my answer is probably not the quick answer you were hoping for: it depends. And I mean that in the best way.

At Lumia, we offer Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, Xeomin, and Daxxify because I do not believe a brand name should decide your treatment plan before I have even looked at your face. The right choice can depend on your anatomy, how your muscles move, the areas you want to treat, your treatment history, your timing, and how you have responded to wrinkle relaxers in the past. My job is not to talk you into a particular vial.

It is to help you understand your options and make a thoughtful decision. Sometimes that means treating. Sometimes it means changing the plan. And sometimes it means deciding you are perfectly happy waiting.

First, What Do All Five Wrinkle Relaxers Have in Common?

Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, Xeomin, and Daxxify are prescription botulinum toxin type A products used to temporarily reduce targeted muscle activity. In aesthetics, that can soften the appearance of lines that become more noticeable with repeated facial movement. At Lumia, you can see the full list of wrinkle relaxer treatments we offer in Columbia, MO. The important thing to know is that these products are not interchangeable on a unit-for-unit basis, and their FDA-approved cosmetic uses are not identical. That is one reason an internet chart cannot tell you exactly which product, dose, or placement is right for your face.

Botox vs. Dysport vs. Jeuveau vs. Xeomin vs. Daxxify: The Differences That Actually Matter to a Patient

FDA-Approved Treatment Areas Differ by Product

Each wrinkle relaxer has its own FDA-approved labeling. Botox Cosmetic is approved for several cosmetic areas, including frown lines, forehead lines, crow’s feet, and platysma bands. Xeomin is approved for upper facial lines, including glabellar lines, horizontal forehead lines, and lateral canthal lines. Dysport, Jeuveau, and Daxxify have FDA-approved cosmetic labeling focused on glabellar or frown lines. You may also hear people talk about wrinkle relaxers for other aesthetic concerns. Some uses can be off-label depending on the specific product and treatment area. Off-label does not automatically mean inappropriate, but it does mean the conversation with your provider matters. You should understand why a treatment is being recommended, what the expected benefit is, what the alternatives are, and what risks should be considered.

Dosing Is Not a Universal Language

This is one of the biggest points of confusion for patients. A “unit” is specific to the product being used. The units for one botulinum toxin product cannot simply be converted one-for-one into another product. So if your friend tells you she gets a certain number of units, that number does not automatically translate to your face or to a different brand. Even with the same product, two people can need different plans because their muscle strength, facial proportions, movement patterns, and goals are different.

Onset and Duration Are Ranges, Not Guarantees

Botox vs. Dysport vs. Jeuveau vs. Xeomin vs. Daxxify all have different clinical data on onset and duration, but real patients don't behave like a perfectly controlled study population.

One person may love the way a product settles and lasts, while another may prefer a different option. Daxxify, for example, has a peptide-based formulation and clinical data showing a longer duration of effect for many patients treated for frown lines. That can be appealing for someone who values longer intervals between treatments. It does not mean it is automatically the right choice for every face or every goal.

Your Anatomy Usually Matters More Than the Logo on the Vial

The position of your brows, the strength of your forehead and frown muscles, your natural asymmetries, and the way you use your face all matter. I look at you at rest and in motion because a treatment plan should support your face, not flatten it into someone else’s idea of what a “Botox result” is supposed to look like. That is also why I am much more interested in what you want to preserve than in simply asking what you want to erase. Do you want your forehead to move? Are you bothered by one specific line? Did a previous treatment feel too heavy? Are you happy with your current product but curious whether another option would last differently? Those answers help guide the plan.

Your Previous Response to Treatment Is Useful Information

If you have been treated before, tell me what you loved and what you did not. Tell me how long you felt happy with the result, whether you noticed an area wearing off sooner, whether your brows felt different, and whether you felt like yourself. You do not need to remember every detail or every unit. We can work from what you do know. Treatment history is not a test. It is simply one more piece of information that helps us make a better decision.

A Patient-Friendly Look at the Five Options at Lumia

Here is the simplest way I think about them. This is not a “winner” list. It is a starting point for a conversation.

  • Botox: A long-established option with FDA-approved cosmetic uses across several facial areas. Many patients already know how they respond to it, which can be useful when building a consistent plan.

  • Dysport: An FDA-approved option for frown lines with its own dosing system and clinical profile. Its units are not interchangeable with Botox or the other products.

  • Jeuveau: A prescription wrinkle relaxer with FDA-approved cosmetic use for moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows in adults.

  • Xeomin: A distinct botulinum toxin type A formulation with current FDA-approved cosmetic use for upper facial lines, including frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet.

  • Daxxify: A peptide-formulated option with FDA-approved use for frown lines and clinical data supporting a longer duration of effect for many patients.

Which Wrinkle Relaxer Gives the Most Natural-Looking Result?

The natural result does not come from choosing the “most natural” brand. It comes from the treatment plan.

Dose, placement, facial anatomy, muscle strength, and the result you are actually asking for matter enormously. My goal at Lumia is not to make you look frozen or unfamiliar to yourself. I want you to look rested, balanced, and still like you. That approach is also why our injector team is built around a safety-first clinical standard. If you want more background on how I think about training, anatomy, and patient care, read why a CRNA-led med spa matters for injectables.

When Might We Talk About Switching Products?

If you are happy with what you are using, there may be absolutely no reason to change it. Your consultation in our office will help us determine the best next steps for you. Newer does not automatically mean better, and brand hopping is not a treatment strategy.

I may talk with a patient about another option when:

  • Their current result seems to fade earlier than expected over multiple treatments.

  • They want to discuss a different duration profile or treatment interval.

  • They felt too heavy, too subtle, or simply did not love the way a previous plan felt.

  • Their treatment goals or facial movement have changed.

  • They have a previous response, medical history, or concern that makes another plan worth discussing.

The answer might be a different product. It might also be a different dose, placement pattern, treatment area, or expectation. That is why I do not assume the vial is the problem before I look at the whole picture.

What a Wrinkle Relaxer Consultation at Lumia Looks Like

You do not need to arrive knowing which product you want. In fact, I would rather you arrive knowing what you want to feel or see differently. We will talk about your goals, what you do not want to change, previous treatments, medical history, and any questions you have. I will look at your face at rest and while you move so we can talk through the areas that are actually driving the concern. If treatment makes sense and you are ready, we can move forward. If you want time to think, that is completely fine too. You can also meet the Lumia team before your visit if you want to learn more about the people who will be caring for you.
